Renowned filmmaker, producer, and politician Shafiur Rahman, known as Shafi Bikrompuri, passed away at the age of 81 while undergoing treatment in Bangkok, following an extended battle with illness. He resided in the capital's Gulshan area.
Originally hailing from Munshiganj, Shafi Bikrompuri entered the country's entertainment industry in 1964 as a film distributor for a Hollywood film. In 1965, he co-produced the film 'Gunai Bibi' and gained recognition as the distributor of the famous film 'Arunodoyer Agnishakkhi,' directed by Subhash Dutta in 1972. Notably, a press show was held at Jonaki cinema hall at that time, attended by prominent figures, including Ziaur Rahman (although he was not president at that time).
Shafi Bikrompuri made a significant impact on the Bangladeshi film industry with his productions 'Bahadur,' 'Daku Monsur,' and 'Raj Dulari.' He made his directorial debut in 1978 with the film 'Raj Dulari.' Subsequently, he directed several other movies, including 'Sobuj Sathi,' 'Denmohor,' 'Sokal Sondhya,' 'Matir Kole,' 'Shoshi Punnu,' and 'Joj Saheb.'
The Bangladesh Film Directors Association has expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and extended their wishes for the departed soul to find eternal peace.
