Sharmin Sultana Sumi, a prominent member of the popular Bangladeshi band Chirkutt, has been invited to an international music conference in Norway.
Sumi, known for her roles as a songwriter, composer, musician, communication specialist, and entrepreneur, will attend this conference upon the invitation of Professor Daniel Nordgård from the University of Agder (UiA) in Kristiansand, Norway. The conference is expected to host music experts from different parts of the world.
During this ten-day event, Sumi will deliver presentations, address the audience, and engage in discussions with students at the university in three sessions. She will share insights into her musical experiences as a woman and discuss various music-related topics.
Sumi expressed her enthusiasm about this opportunity, saying, “For the last 21 years, our band has been performing Bangla songs within the country and working internationally for the last 11 years. I think it's a wonderful opportunity and a chance for people from around the world to hear detailed insights about the diverse music of Bangladesh. The world is much larger than we think, with vast opportunities for all of us. Seizing the chance to represent our country on the global stage is a matter of peace, honor, and pride.”
If everything goes as planned, Sumi will participate in several climate-related meetings in Finland after the conference in Norway, traveling via Denmark. She will return to Bangladesh on November 16 to take part in a new live concert.
However, before her departure, she will perform two live concerts on October 25 in Rajshahi and October 26 at the Army Stadium with Chirkutt.
