Professor Dr. Atikur Rahman, the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Sunday (11 August) confirmed that 173 doctors who had long been denied promotions have now been elevated to higher positions.

According to a notification signed by the university’s Registrar, Professor Dr. ABM Abdul Hannan, the promotion order specifically addresses the long-deprived candidates who had completed higher degrees by January 2022.

However, these promotions were granted to medical officers and research assistants who had been appointed between 2003 and 2006, completed higher degrees, and had been awaiting promotion.

The promotion details are as follows:

Conditions for Appointment:

  2. Regulations Compliance: Employment will be governed by the university's Law (Act No. 1 of 1998), along with all relevant statutes, ordinances, regulations, and rules.
  3. Non-Practice Requirement: Those promoted to the position of Assistant Professor must join the university if a non-practicing program is introduced there. Any deviation from the conditions will lead to legal action.
  4. Approval and Salary Scale: The appointment will be considered provisional until approved by the Syndicate, with salary scales and grades determined according to individual eligibility.
  5. Syndicate Decisions: Decisions from the 33rd Syndicate meeting held on September 14, 2009, and related decisions from the 28th Syndicate meeting held on June 26, 2008, will be reaffirmed subject to subsequent amendments by the Syndicate.
