DGHS provides Eight guidelines to flood management

Health Directorate has issued 8 guidelines for flood-affected areas. The information was disclosed today, Thursday (August 22), in a directive signed by Dr. Abu Hossain Md. Moinul Hasan, Director of the Hospital and Clinic Branch of the Health Directorate. The guidelines are as follows:

Maintain a Control Room:  A control room must be operational at all times in the offices of Civil Surgeons and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers in flood-affected areas.

Form Medical Teams: Establish medical teams with primary medical supplies and keep them ready for disaster response.

Prepare for Health Risks: Health service institutions in flood-affected areas should be prepared for diseases related to floods, such as diarrhea and snake bites. Adequate stocks of water purification tablets, oral rehydration salts, anti-venom, etc., should be maintained.

Protect Equipment: All medical equipment in flood-affected hospitals should be stored in elevated areas to prevent damage.

Stock Emergency Supplies: Ensure the availability of emergency medical supplies and keep ambulances ready.

Mandatory Presence: All doctors, nurses, and staff in flood-affected districts must not leave their posts without the permission of the Divisional Director (Health).

Continuous Communication: Civil Surgeons and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers in flood-affected areas are requested to maintain constant communication with the Health Directorate’s control room.

Coordinate with Local Authorities: Constant coordination and communication with the control rooms established by local administration and disaster management departments are required.
