Dengue claims 9 more lives, 1,214 hospitalised in 24hrs

Nine more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Thursday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 436 this year.

During the period, three deaths were reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), five in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), one in Rajshahi Division (outside of the city corporation).

One thousand and two hundred-fourteen more patients were hospitalised with viral fever across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of them, 195 dengue patients were admitted in hospitals under DNCC while 141 were hospitalised under DSCC.

A total of 3, 882 people affected with the dengue have been undergoing treatment across the country, according to the DGHS. A total of 84,368 dengue cases have been recorded since January 1, 2024.

Last year, 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.

The DGHS recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 3, 18,749 recoveries last year.
