Seven more people died of dengue fever in the 24 hours until 8:00 am on Tuesday (3 December), taking the death toll this year to 504. Besides, 629 people have been admitted to hospitals with the mosquito-borne viral fever during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the recent fatalities, two occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation, two each in Dhaka North City Corporation and one in Khulna division.
DGHS Director General Prof Dr Md Abu Zafar said, "Most deaths occur because patients seek treatment too late. The highest mortality rate is observed among individuals aged 20 to 40 in Dhaka. In Chattogram, however, children and the elderly are more affected.
Since 1 January, a total of 93,685 dengue cases have been reported. Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people, making it the deadliest year on record.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), there were 3,21,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in 2023.
