Hungary does not need gas transit from Ukraine as the TurkStream pipeline secures energy supply to the country, however, Budapest is open for talks with Kiev on the transit's extension, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told RIA Novosti on Saturday (2 March).
"Currently, our energy supply is safe, given the fact that the TurkStream pipeline can supply us. So actually, for the security of the supply we don't need transit from Ukraine, but more routes the better. So we're open for discussion of course," Szijjarto said.
The agreement on the transit of Russian gas via Ukraine to Europe is set to expire at the end of 2024.
