Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley plans to suspend her presidential campaign on Wednesday (6 March), the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with her plans.
Haley lost 14 out of 15 Republican primaries held on Super Tuesday.
The former ambassador is reportedly expected to deliver brief remarks in the Charleston area around 03:00 GMT today, but she will not announce an endorsement yet, although she is expected to support former US President Donald Trump.
At the same time, Haley repeatedly criticized Trump during her campaign as a problematic candidate who was unlikely to win a match-up against incumbent President Joe Biden in the general election, the Wall Street Journal reported. And while she previously vowed to support a Republican candidate if she lost the primaries, the 52-year-old politician has yet to fulfill her pledge, according to the report.
As for her future political career, Haley is expected to continue advocating conservative policies, both foreign and domestic, although she will not support isolationism, the newspaper said.
The United States is scheduled to hold the presidential election on November 5.
