Hungary would be happy to host Donald Trump "in any position," said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"It would always be an honor to have President Trump in Budapest, no question. It's not a problem that he's a candidate because we would be honored to receive him in any position, regardless of whether he is a candidate or elected or whatever," Szijjarto said, when asked if Trump will attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest in April.
However, he added, the ongoing presidential campaign in the US provides the candidates, including Trump, a very limited chance to leave the country.
"But we hope that once we will be able to host him in Hungary in any of his positions," he said.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is expected to meet with Trump in Florida on March 8. Orban intends to discuss with him the prospects of restoring peace in Ukraine, Szijjarto said.
Trump is the lone Republican candidate in the 2024 US presidential election.
