Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban voiced his opinion on Saturday ( 9 March) that the entire world would benefit from former US President Donald Trump's comeback to the White House, arguing there were no conflicts in Ukraine and Middle East during his leadership.
On Friday, Trump met with Orban at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida to discuss a wide range of issues of common interest for Hungary and the United States.
"President Trump was the president of the world. He enjoyed the world's respect and, therefore, created conditions for peace. During his presidency there was peace in the Middle East, as well as in Ukraine. Today, there could have been no war if he was still the US president. We agreed that peace will be when there are world leaders who want peace. I am proud of the fact that Hungary is one of these nations," said Orban.
Trade between Hungary and the United Nations has surpassed $9 billion, but Budapest hopes for a "new impulse" in mutual trade if Trump returns to the White House, Orban said.
"Here in America, the [presidential] campaign is underway, actually, rushing ahead. The Americans have to decide for themselves, while we, Hungarians, have to honestly admit that it would be better for the world, and for Hungary as well, if president Donald Trump was back," the Hungarian leader said.
Trump and Orban are longtime allies who are sharing conservative political views and have publicly expressed mutual respect and support. Orban has thrown support behind Trump both in US presidential race and the legal challenges he is facing.
Trump is the lone Republican candidate in the 2024 US presidential election.
