Germany has been negotiating with the United Arab Emirates and other countries for several weeks now to be involved in humanitarian deliveries to the Gaza Strip through a designated sea and air corridor, Der Spiegel has reported, citing sources familiar with the situation.
A German special envoy is currently participating in negotiations in Cyprus.
The German government is preparing to airdrop humanitarian supplies over Gaza, while the German army is examining the possibility of providing naval support for the sea corridor, the report read. Germany's foreign and defense ministries have been discussing for several days the possibility of involving the air force.
On Friday, US President Joe Biden told Congress that he had ordered the Pentagon to build a temporary port to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza without the US army present on sight.
