European companies so far have not reserved any Ukrainian pipeline capacity for future gas supplies from Russia, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.
"It is a difficult question. We have not had any specific requests from companies yet, and we ourselves, of course, do not ask about this," told Galushchenko on Sunday (10 March), when asked whether Ukraine would allow European companies to reserve pipeline capacity for Russian gas supplies.
At the same time, Galushchenko confirmed Ukraine's position that it had no intention of extending the agreement on Russian gas transit to Europe after 2024.
Earlier this year, media reported, citing sources in the Ukrainian government, that Kiev was unwilling to extend the gas transit agreement with Russian gas giant Gazprom. European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said at the time the European Union was not interested in its extension either.
In May 2022, Ukraine stopped accepting gas for transit through the Sokhranovka station, saying that it was under the control of Russian forces in the Luhansk People's Republic. As a result, the Sudzha station was the only one left for transit of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine. Gazprom said it was technically impossible to transfer all volumes of gas through the Sudzha station alone, but the company continues to deliver gas to European customers in accordance with its contractual obligations and submitted requests.
