Former US President Donald Trump has gained a slight lead over his successor President Joe Biden in the presidential race, a new poll conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University showed on Wednesday (13 March).

The poll showed that Trump has edged Biden 40%-38%, a near-tie for the two candidates, who on Tuesday secured their respective party nominations.

Trump gained a slight lead over Biden despite the fact that slightly more Americans, or 33%, believe the nation’s economy is recovering. This is the high record since August 2021, when 32% of voters shared this opinion.

When it comes to party affiliation, 81% of Democrats back Biden, while 5% were undecided and the rest back a variety of third-party candidates.

Among those who said they support Biden, 54% said they were voting in favor of his candidacy, while 41% said they were voting mostly against Trump, the poll found.

According to the survey, 85% of Republicans support Trump, while 6% of party members are backing Robert Kennedy, and 2% still have not made their decision.

However, 15% of potential voters are unsatisfied with both major candidates. The poll revealed that a quarter are ready to support Trump, 18% lean towards Biden, and 44% consider various third-party candidates.

The poll was conducted among 1,000 registered voters by phone on March 8-11.
