Russia's election commission on Monday (18 March) hailed a "record" victory for President Vladimir Putin after a vote with no opposition, saying it showed the country was united behind the longtime leader.
"Almost 76 million people" voted for Putin, electoral chief Ella Pamfilova said after more than 99 percent of the votes had been counted. "This is a record figure," she said, adding: "In the face of the West we have shown that we are united."
