About 3,200 trucks are queuing at the Ukrainian border with Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary, Andriy Demchenko, the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, said on Sunday (24 March).

“The Polish farmers continue to obstruct traffic for trucks, as of the morning they have been blocking three directions while previously there were six (directions blocked). Currently, the border crossings in Yahodyn (Dorohusk in Poland), Uhryniv (Dolgobychuv in Poland), and Rava-Ruska (Hrebenne in Poland) are blocked. There is a total of approximately 500 trucks in queues at these three locations, with the most of them at Yahodyn. There are also queues at the unblocked border crossings. About 800 trucks are waiting at Krakovets border crossing (Korczew in Poland), and 400 near Shehyni (Medyka in Poland),” Demchenko said to Ukrainian TV broadcaster Rada.

There have also been lines at border crossings with other countries, the official said, adding that 300 trucks are waiting at the Uzhorod crossing in the direction of Slovakia, 800 vehicles at the Tysa checkpoint on the Hungarian border and about 400 trucks at the Porubne crossing on the border with Romania.

Polish farmers began a nationwide protest on February 9. They are blocking roads and access to checkpoints at the border with Ukraine. The protesters are demanding that the duty-free import of agricultural products from Ukraine be stopped and EU climate policies eased.
