A terrorist attack similar to the concert venue shooting near Moscow could happen in countries where the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) is present, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said.
Russia struck one of the IS cells three weeks ago, Crosetto said.
"The US alerted the Moscow services, explaining that the group had been partially hit but not yet eliminated. On Friday (22 March), there was a response by IS. It happened in Russia, but attacks of this kind can still happen in many other countries where IS is present and active," Crosetto told in an interview released on Sunday (24 March).
The attack shows that the danger remains high and that "even in Europe we should not relax," the minister said.
At the same time, speaking of possible involvement of Kiev in the attack, Crosetto said that there are no such links and that the Ukrainian allies would never allow this to happen, adding that "for Kiev to even think of helping IS would be tantamount to double suicide."
Earlier in the day, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov told that there was no need to jump to conclusions, commenting on recent US statements about the IS involvement in the terrorist attack, as Russian special services were conducting investigations to find those responsible for the incident.
