A new sea route between Peru and China after the opening of a port in Peru's fishing town of Chancay could provide future opportunities for Russian exporters, Peruvian Ambassador to Russia Juan Genaro Del Campo Rodriguez told.
The Chancay seaport, co-financed by Chinese state-owned shipping giant COSCO and Peruvian mining company Volcan, is under construction and will be operational this November, the ambassador said.
The new port will reduce the transportation time of goods between Peru, China and other Asia-Pacific countries by 10-12 days from the average of 32 days, which opens up opportunities for exporters from the Asia-Pacific region, including Russia, the ambassador said.
"If we take Vladivostok or Kamchatka into account, we can conclude that this new route opens up opportunities for Peruvian and Russian exporters who would like to place their products in these countries with fewer logistical problems," he added.
The ambassador said that the decision to expand into other countries in the region will be made by entrepreneurs once the port and the route are opened.
