Researchers from Canada, China, Russia and the United States have found in a study presented on Sunday (31 March) that China is on track to becoming a key force in maintaining international security by 2035 and that its global leadership would reduce the risk of big wars in the 21st century.
"China, guided by the global security initiative and other principles, will become the key force in maintaining global security and promoting peaceful development in world politics and the economy," the study read, adding that China will also "work to ensure that there are no large-scale wars in the world, and also to avoid being drawn into any regional small-scale conflicts."
The study was presented at the Renmin University of China. The team included researchers from Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies; the Center for China-US Cooperation at the University of Denver; the Free Economic Society of Russia; Geopolitical Economy Research Group at the University of Manitoba, and the India China Economic and Cultural Council.
