A group of US House Republicans are proposing to rename the Washington Dulles International Airport after former President Donald Trump, according to a bill text made public on Tuesday (2 April).
The legislation would designate the facility as Donald J. Trump International Airport. The airport is currently named after former US Secretary of State John Dulles.
"As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil," US Congressman Guy Reschenthaler said in a statement.
The legislation is backed by House Republicans including Reschenthaler, Michael Waltz, Paul Gosar and Troy Nehls.
Washington Dulles International Airport serves as a major airport for the Washington area, alongside Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
