The Biden administration approved the sale of new weapons to Israel, including thousands of powerful bombs, on the same day the US ally killed seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers in a strike, said US officials on Thursday (4 April).
The State Department confirmed the approval but noted that it came before the IDF strike on the charity organization workers.
The reported transaction gives new insight into US President Joe Biden’s emotional statement that he was "outraged and heartbroken" by the tragedy.
Last week, the newspaper reported that the United States greenlighted the provision of more than 1,800 MK84 2,000-pound bombs and 500 MK82 500-pound bombs to Israel despite the continued growth of the civilian death toll in Gaza.
The United States continues to deny that Israel has violated any norms of international humanitarian law during its military operation in Gaza, and also refuses to limit the arms supply to its closest ally in the Middle East.
Monday's Israeli strike against the staff of WCK killed seven employees from Australia, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Palestine, as well as a dual citizen of the United States and Canada. The NGO said that its convoy had coordinated its movements with the IDF. The organization suspended its operations in the Gaza Strip after the deadly incident.
