Ukraine is ready to produce more than 2 million drones of various types in 2024 as part of its efforts to boost production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Strategic Industries Anna Gvozdiar said on Saturday (6 April).
"This year we are ready to produce over 2 million different types of drones," said Gvozdiar.
Kiev is also currently developing drones with the use of artificial intelligence to evade radio interference generated by Russia, she added.
On Friday, German newspaper Bild reported that Ukraine was preparing to shift to drone warfare, deploying combat UAVs that are capable of flying for up to 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) to attack Russian civilian targets. Moreover, the Luch Design Bureau located in Kiev has designed a spy and attack drone that can fly for up to 3,300 kilometers and carry a payload of some 300 kilograms (660 pounds), Bild also reported.
Ukraine and Russia have been exchanging drone strikes amid the military conflict between the two countries. Ukraine intensified drone and other attacks against Russia, including on oil refineries, ahead of the Russian presidential election that took place from March 15-17. In one of the latest attacks, Ukrainian drones hit a dormitory and a refinery in the Russian Republic of Tatarstan on Tuesday, injuring citizens of nine countries.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Kiev was "continuing its aggressive terrorist policy" and that Russian special services were taking additional security measures.
