Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on Saturday (6 April) that the real organizers of the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue near Moscow were officials of the "Nazi Ukraine" who were "hiding in the shadows" of the Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS, outlawed in Russia).
"These are officials of the Nazi 'Ukraine.' The idea to compensate for failures on the battlefield with terrorist attacks was born in their ugly brains ... They will have to answer for it either in accordance with the law or otherwise, in the way terrorists are dealt with all over the world. Without a statute of limitations," Medvedev said.
The organizers of the terrorist attack near Moscow came up with the legend of ISIS's alleged responsibility, which the extremists themselves were happy to confirm, the Russian official explained.
"They always do that just to increase their capital. Well, no one canceled the money, they probably received their reward. But the true organizers are still hiding in the shadows and that's the idea," Medvedev added.
The perpetrators of the terrorist attack were not "religious fanatics, but hired killers," he also said.
On March 22, several armed men broke into Crocus City Hall and started shooting at people. The attack left 144 people dead, according to the latest data from the Russian Emergencies Ministry. The four main suspects in the case — all of them citizens of Tajikistan — tried to flee the scene in a car but were detained and charged with terrorism. Russian authorities believe their plan was to flee to Ukraine, where the masterminds of the attack had arranged a safe haven for them. An investigation is underway.
