More than 13,000 people were killed and over 30,000 others were injured during the year of armed conflict in Sudan, Sudanese Health Minister Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim said.
"Since April 15, as a result of the fighting in Khartoum and other provinces of Sudan, more than 13,000 people have been killed and over 30,000 have been injured," Ibrahim said.
More than 70% of hospitals and medical facilities are out of service in the Khartoum province due to shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, he added.
In April 2023, clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the RSF. They have since introduced a number of temporary nationwide ceasefires, but none has helped settle the conflict. In late October, the parties to the conflict resumed negotiations, mediated by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, but the hostilities have continued.
