NATO seeks to strengthen its presence in the Arctic and establish new headquarters command chains there, so Russia's response will be adequate, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on Monday (15 April).
"Indeed, joining NATO will be accompanied by the implementation of a number of infrastructure measures, including those related to the signing of a bilateral security agreement with the United States, according to which 17 facilities have been allocated on the territory of Finland, which will be placed at the disposal of the US armed forces," Grushko told reporters.
The command and staff structures of NATO will take place in connection with the accession of Finland and Sweden to the alliance, the diplomat said.
"As for Russia, as our president has repeatedly stated, our reaction will be proportionate to the threats that may arise from the territory of these two countries. And, of course, we will determine the ways to reliably ensure our security and defense capability," Grushko added.
