A fourth person with Indian citizenship has been arrested in Canada on suspicion of assassinating Sikh temple leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar last June.
“This arrest shows the nature of our ongoing investigation to hold responsible those that played a role in the homicide of Hardeep Singh Nijjar,” Supt. Mandeep Mooker of Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said on Saturday (12 May).
The news outlet reported that the detainee was 22-year-old Amandeep Singh. Now he faces charges of aggravated premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
In early May, three other Indian nationals were arrested in relation to the murder of the Sikh leader.
Last June, Nijjar was fatally shot by two masked gunmen in the parking lot of a Sikh temple in Surrey, British Columbia. Nijjar advocated for the creation of an independent Sikh state in northern India called Khalistan. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in September that Ottawa was examining "credible allegations" linking Indian officials to the killing of Nijjar. India rejected the allegations.
