More than 160 tonnes of fuel were delivered to the Gaza Strip via the US-installed temporary pier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

On Thursday (16 May), the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the US military installed a temporary pier in the Gaza Strip to deliver humanitarian aid to the enclave.

"In addition, as part of the operation of essential humanitarian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, including hospitals and shelters, 162,000 liters of fuel and diesel were transferred," the IDF said on Telegram on Saturday.

This week, 1,050 trucks with humanitarian aid entered the enclave through the Erez and Kerem Shalom border crossings, the statement read, adding that the Israeli military also delivered hundreds of tents, intended for the expanded humanitarian area in Al-Mawasi.

On October 7, 2023, Palestinian movement Hamas launched a large-scale rocket attack against Israel and breached the border, attacking both civilian neighborhoods and military bases. Nearly 1,200 people in Israel were killed and some 240 others were abducted during the attack. Israel launched retaliatory strikes, ordered a complete blockade of Gaza, and started a ground incursion into the Palestinian enclave with the declared goal of eliminating Hamas fighters and rescuing the hostages. Over 35,200 people have been killed so far by Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, local authorities said. More than 100 hostages are still believed to be held by Hamas in Gaza.
