The funeral ceremony for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage who died in a helicopter crash will take place in the city of Tabriz, the capital of the East Azerbaijan province, on Tuesday (21 May), a senior official under the governor of East Azerbaijan province for administrative, political and electoral issues said on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Iranian Vice President Mohsen Mansouri confirmed media reports that Raisi and his delegation, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, died in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran.
"The funeral ceremony of the president and his companions will take place tomorrow in Tabriz. The bodies of those killed in the helicopter crash will be sent to Tabriz. First, they will undergo a forensic medical examination," the official was quoted as saying.
