Five people were killed in a coal mine accident in the Chinese northeastern province of Heilongjiang, the Chinese media reported on Tuesday (21 May), citing sources.
The accident took place on Monday at 20:38 local time (12:38 GMT) at Xing'an coal mine in the city of Hegang, trapping nine people inside, Chinese media reported, adding that four people were successfully rescued.
The preliminary investigation showed that the accident had been caused by a leakage of liquid carbon dioxide, the media reported.
Further investigation is continuing, media added.
