Registration of candidates for Iran's snap presidential election, called after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, will begin on May 30, with the final list of participants to be presented on June 11, a head of Tehran’s provincial election headquarters said.
"Registration of candidates will take place from May 30 to June 3, and verification of compliance will take place from June 4-10. The final list of candidates will be announced on June 11," the official was quoted on Saturday (25 May).
Candidates will be able to conduct election campaigning for two weeks from June 12 to June 26, the report added.
Last week, Raisi went to Azerbaijan to participate in the opening ceremony of the Giz Galasi dam and the commissioning of the Khudafarin dam on the joint border. Raisi's helicopter crash-landed on its way back to Iran, leaving the president and his delegation, which included Amirabdollahian, dead. Preliminary findings of an official Iranian probe suggest the helicopter caught fire after colliding with a hilltop amid thick fog.
