The Japanese Coast Guard reported on Monday (27 May) a possible missile launch by North Korea and sent a warning to residents of the southern Okinawa Prefecture urging them to take shelter.
"According to the Ministry of Defense, an object that could be a ballistic missile was launched by North Korea. Vessels need to monitor subsequent reports and, if debris is found, avoid approaching them and immediately report relevant information to the Coast Guard," the message says.
A warning was sent to the residents of Okinawa through the J-Alert system about a possible missile launch by North Korea with an appeal to take shelter inside buildings or in rooms underground.
