161 Million Aid Annuance for Agranistan – Eu Commission

The European Union is set to provide some 150 million euros ($161 million) in aid to tackle the worsening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, the European Commission announced on Monday (June 10). Monitoring ,humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, the EU has activated its emergency aid reserve to avoid a risk of famine in the country.

This will bring the total EU response to nearly €150 million in humanitarian aid for this crisis in 2024," the EU Commission said in a statement.

The EU funding will support partners working extensively in Afghanistan (about 126 million euros), including aid for Afghan refugees in Pakistan (over 11 million euros) and humanitarian organizations in Iran (about 11 million euros), and will also help boost disaster preparedness, according to the statement.

The announcement coincides with international representatives meeting in Brussels on Monday to address Afghanistan's food and health crisis, the statement said.

Afghanistan is now facing a humanitarian crisis, with millions at risk of famine and limited healthcare access. Natural disasters, such as recent floods, have worsened the situation, also affecting neighboring countries.
