The Israeli army used a humanitarian aid truck to infiltrate the Nuseirat refugee camp during the deadly operation to free hostages last weekend, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said in a statement.
"The Palestine Red Crescent Society warns of the dangers posed by the use of a humanitarian aid truck as cover for military operations. Last Saturday Israeli occupation forces used an aid truck to infiltrate the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, which then led to the death of hundreds of people," the organization wrote on X on Monday (10 June).
The hiding of military forces in an aid truck is considered a war crime against the civilian population, the PRCS said, adding that such actions put civilians at risk and undermine their trust to humanitarian workers.
"These actions come at a time when people living in Gaza desperately need aid, amid suffering from acute food insecurity and ongoing concern for famine. PRCS calls on the international community to hold the occupying Israeli authorities accountable for their actions," the humanitarian organization said.
Israel conducted an operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Saturday and rescued four of the hostages held by the Palestinian movement Hamas. The enclave's health ministry said that at least 274 civilians were killed and 698 injured by the Israeli army in the process.
