International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said that it is necessary to resume cooperation with North Korea, as the country has an ambitious nuclear program.
"I believe that we need to resume cooperation with the DPRK … for example, in the area of nuclear safety. The country has a very ambitious nuclear program, including fuel production, uranium processing, regeneration, and nuclear reactors. And I am not talking about nuclear weapons, but about a huge number of nuclear facilities, the only ones in the world that are not monitored," Grossi said in an interview with Russian newspaper Izvestia.
He added that the international community had failed to contain North Korea in the nuclear weapons area, and now "nobody knows whether minimum safety standards are being met." Grossi also noted that Pyongyang has a "very large arsenal" of nuclear weapons.
