The Lebanese government has deported more than 5,000 Syrian illegal migrants from Lebanon’s North Governorate, said Governor Ramzi Nohra.
"We have deported more than 5,000 Syrian refugees who were illegally residing in 15 settlements of the North Governorate ... Some of the deportees have returned to Syria, while the rest have been sent to settlements that can accept them," the governor said.
Nohra noted that in some settlements of the region, there are significantly more Syrian citizens than Lebanese. The continuing influx of Syrians into the province has caused a health and electricity crisis, as well as security issues, the governor added.
