Europe's main stock markets slipped at the open Tuesday as investors track new political landscapes in France and Britain and look ahead to testimony from Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell. London's FTSE 100 index fell 0.2 percent to 8,177.71 points.
In the eurozone, the Paris CAC 40 index dropped 0.4 percent to 7,594.16 points and Frankfurt's DAX shed 0.5 percent to 18,379.03.
