On Monday (August 12), the Secretary-General’s Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement, "The Secretary-General has welcomed efforts to restore peace with the support of the interim government and to organize parliamentary elections in Bangladesh."

Guterres has called on the interim government to move towards parliamentary elections with an inclusive and comprehensive effort, considering the voices of women, youth, and people from across the country, including minorities, as the nation moves forward in the coming weeks.
