Anton Chekhov’s 165th birth anniversary celebration at the Russian House in Dhaka

11 December 2025, the Russian House in Dhaka marked the 165th anniversary of the birth of Anton Chekhov, one of Russia's greatest literary figures, with a captivating literary event. The celebration organized in cooperation with the Soviet Alumni Association of Bangladesh honored Chekhov’s profound contributions to world literature.

The program began with a welcoming speech by Mr. Pavel A. Dvoychenkov, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka. In his speech he reflected on Chekhov’s life and literary legacy, expressing sincere gratitude to all those who participated in the event.

The evening featured a series of engaging presentations and performances by students of the Russian language courses at the Russian House. Among the highlights was a special recital of Chekhov’s poignant piece "Последнее прости" (Last Farewell) by a distinguished alumnus of the Soviet University. The event culminated in a dramatic reading of Chekhov’s short story "Fat and Thin" (Толстый и тонкий) performed by Russian language students under the guidance of the Russian language instructor of Ms. Olga Roy.

Audiences were deeply enthralled by the event's performance, gaining a renewed appreciation for Chekhov's extraordinary storytelling, exploration of human nature, and his enduring influence on world literature.
