On 27 November 2024, Bangladesh Consulate General in Hong Kong officially inaugurated its e-passport service, marking a significant milestone in enhancing consular services. The event was attended by Consul General Ms Ishrat Ara, members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community, Consulate officials and staff, Colonel Kazi Shamsher Uddin, Additional Project Director of the e-Passport and Automated Border Control Management Project under the Department of Immigration and Passports, and technical representatives from the Passport Department.
In her address, Consul General Ms Ara highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the interim government, led by the Honourable Chief Adviser, for the welfare of expatriates. She expressed gratitude to the Department of Immigration and Passports for their dedicated support in launching the e-passport service and emphasized the Consulate's commitment to simplifying consular services. She also expressed her hope that the introduction of the e-passport service would improve services for expatriates and demonstrate Bangladesh's technological advancements on the global stage.
Colonel Kazi Shamsher Uddin shared insights into the e-passport service implemented by the Passport Department. He praised the Consulate for its support and presented a commemorative gift to the Consul General.
Representatives from the Department of Immigration and Passports provided a detailed overview of the e-passport application process to the attending Bangladeshi nationals. They had previously conducted necessary training for the Consulate staff on e-passport-related procedures.
The inauguration of the e-passport service was warmly welcomed by the expatriate community, who appreciated the efforts of the Consulate and the Passport Department in making this significant advancement. During the event, e-passport enrolment forms were distributed to four expatriates. The programme was hosted by Mr Md Kamrul Hasan, First Secretary of the Consulate's Passport and Visa Wing.
