The Embassy of Bangladesh in Bahrain organised a special awareness-raising program and consular camp on (18 December) to commemorate International Migrants’ Day and National Expatriates’ Day in a joyous atmosphere in collaboration with numerous Bahrain Government entities and UN organisations. The program aimed to raise awareness among the large Bangladeshi community in Bahrain about their rights, responsibilities, and safety, while encouraging them to be ideal residents of the Kingdom.
The program witnessed the participation of a good number of foreign dignitaries, diplomats, guests, and journalists, most notably, the IOM Chief of Mission to the Kingdom of Bahrain, H.E. Ms. Aishath Ihma Shareef, Chief of Consular Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, H.E. Ebrahim Mohammed Al Meselmani, and other senior representatives from various Bahrain Government entities and international organisations, namely, the Nationality, Passport Residence Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, General Directorate of Traffic (GDT), IOM, and WHO Bahrain.
In his welcome address, the Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of the Embassy, Mr. A.K.M. Mohiuddin Kayes, highlighted the significance of the day and outlined the various endeavours of the Embassy to ensure the rights and well-being of the Bangladeshi expat community in Bahrain. He then took the opportunity to thank the Bangladeshi community for their invaluable contributions to both Bangladesh and Bahrain.
He stressed the importance of adhering to the laws and regulations of Bahrain for upholding the image of Bangladesh. He also called for continued collaboration with Bahraini government entities and international organisations to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the Bangladeshi community in Bahrain.
Next, the IOM Bahrain Chief delivered her statement, where she praised the Embassy for hosting an event of this scale for commemorating the International Migrants’ Day, which she noted was the first of its kind by any Embassy in Bahrain, and expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Chargéd’Affaires, a.i. as well as the Government of Bangladesh for working very closely with the IOM to ensure the successful implementation of joint initiatives that positively impact the lives of Bangladeshi migrants worldwide.
She highlighted the importance of such collaborative efforts for their continued protection and well-being. Afterwards, the program featured statements from the WHO Representative and Head of Office in Bahrain, Director of Partnership & Outreach Directorate of the LMRA, and a representative from the GDT.
The program concluded with an award ceremony, where a few distinguished Bangladeshis were honoured with a crest for their invaluable contributions to the community and their homeland, most notably, the sending of remittance through official channels.
In the spirit of the International Migrants’ Day and National Expatriates’ Day, the Embassy reaffirms its commitment towards serving the Bangladeshi community in Bahrain and addressing their welfare-related issues by providing timely assistance and consular services, organising awareness programs, and fostering strong relationships with all Bahraini authorities as well as international organisations through continued collaboration to create a safe and fair environment for all Bangladeshis in Bahrain.
