In a dramatic development, several leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who are currently in police custody under the Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police, have provided crucial insights into the ongoing political situation.

Their testimonies shed light on the tumultuous events of October 28, including the motivations behind the attacks on police and the residence of the Chief Justice.

Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing the identification of the masterminds behind these attacks and are committed to bringing all those responsible for the chaos on October 28 to justice.

Among those apprehended is Amir Khusru Mahmud, a prominent member of the BNP Standing Committee, who has been in hiding since the aforementioned events.

Amir Khusru Mahmud was finally arrested in a late-night raid at a residence in Gulshan, following several unsuccessful attempts to locate him.

Intelligence police officials anticipate that his arrest will yield vital information, providing a deeper understanding of the circumstances surrounding the October 28 BNP riots.

Authorities have expressed their optimism that these revelations will serve as a valuable lesson and lead to the identification and apprehension of all individuals involved in planning and executing the attacks.

Additional Commissioner of Intelligence Police, Harunur Rashid, said, "We had been pursuing BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury for an extended period, as he had been evading capture from his residence. However, we successfully apprehended him on Thursday, and he now stands as the fourth accused in the police murder case related to these incidents."

Harunur Rashid further added, "The brazen attack on the police, resulting in fatality and several injuries, including one individual falling into a coma, highlights the gravity of the situation. All accused in this case must face legal consequences."

Emphasising their commitment to swift justice, the Head of the DB remarked, "We are dedicated to uncovering the masterminds behind these attacks and will ensure their swift apprehension. “Additionally, we have obtained the names of those individuals responsible for the arson attacks on October 28."

Metropolitan Intelligence Police officials have revealed their findings, indicating that a faction within the BNP played an active role in a covert plan to destabilise the government, including their participation in the assault on the police. Their primary objective appeared to be the creation of chaos and disorder within the country's political landscape.

The Joint Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Biplab Kumar Sarkar, stressed that there would be no exceptions for those who caused mayhem.

Sarkar said, “On October 18, BNP submitted a written notification detailing the duration and scope of their rally, leading to permission being granted by our superiors. However, little did we realise their concealed intentions to incite anarchy on a national scale. Despite the peaceful intentions of the police, they were subjected to brutal attacks."

Biplab Kumar Sarkar added, "Those who orchestrated and participated in these acts of sabotage must be held accountable under the law, with no one evading the long arm of justice."
He also mentioned that a blockade has been called again on Sunday, however the police will remain vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents.
