A newly formed political alliance ‘Jukto Front’ led by Bangladesh Kalyan Party will run in the forthcoming national election on January 7. The alliance consists of six political parties, including the Kalyan Party, Muslim League and Jatiya Party (Matin).
Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Chairman of Bangladesh Kalyan Party also the chief of the alliance, came up with the announcement at a press conference held at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Wednesday (22 November).
Ibrahim, while addressing the press conference, said that his alliance will take part in the election under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led administration. “We are preparing to contest the polls in 100 seats.”
Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, a retired major general of the Bangladesh Army, created the Bangladesh Kalyan Party in December 2007 during the country's severe political crisis from 2006 to 2008. Later that year, he joined Kamal Hossain's National United Front.
His Kalyan Party is currently a member of BNP-led 20-party alliance and he is now engaged in waging simultaneous anti-government movement with BNP.
