The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has been unsuccessful in obstructing the electoral process, despite organizing numerous programs throughout the year that called for the downfall of the ruling Awami League government and advocated for elections under a neutral administration. Consequently, there is a palpable sense of dissatisfaction among leaders and workers at various levels of the BNP and its affiliated entities.

Amidst the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission (EC), the election campaign and festivities between the Awami League and other parties have commenced. In response to this scenario, the BNP has declared a fresh 'non-cooperation' movement along with a strike-blockade. The party, from its central leadership to grassroots levels, is intensifying efforts in a bid to bolster its leaders and activists in what appears to be a sense of growing desperation.

According to statements from various central leaders of the BNP, the party is expressing a strong determination to ensure the success of the ongoing non-cooperation movement at any cost. Messages from the central level of the party have been communicated to leaders and activists nationwide, prompting the initiation of programs in various parts of the country in line with this resolve.

As per BNP central sources, the party's top leadership has undertaken comprehensive preparations to ensure the success of the non-cooperation program. Special efforts are being made to engage professional experts in this endeavor. The impact of the non-cooperation program has already begun to manifest since Sunday (December 24), and a more positive and noticeable situation is anticipated to unfold from the first day of January.

In this regard, Begum Selima Rahman, a member of BNP’s Standing Committee, told The Daily Messenger, “There is no doubt about the implementation of the Non-Cooperation Movement program. From January 1, people will gradually stop everything. All levels of leaders and activists will enter the field in the non-cooperation movement.”

Meanwhile, the party leaders and activists have come to the field since last Saturday to make the non-cooperation program a success. Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal have distributed leaflets in the capital to implement the boycott and non-cooperation movement calling the 12th National parliamentary election a dummy election. At this time, they urged the common people not to go to the polling station.

Former central leaders of Juba Dal distributed leaflets in Kamalapur area of the capital on Saturday (December 23). It was led by Khondkar Mortazul Karim Badru, the former senior vice-president of the Juba Dal Central Committee. Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal distributed leaflets and made mass campaign in Gulshan-1 and Badda Link Road areas on Saturday night. Besides, as part of the non-cooperation movement, BNP leaders and activists marched in Dholaipar in the capital on Sunday.

In the meantime, the BNP has unveiled a new three-day program for the boycott and non-cooperation movement. Scheduled for December 26, 27, and 28, leaders and activists of the party will engage in distributing leaflets, advocating for mass campaign and the boycott of the upcoming national polls in support of the non-cooperation movement across the country. The announcement was made by BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, during a virtual press conference on Sunday afternoon.
