Social Welfare Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, has said the government led by the daughter of Bangabandhu always remains beside the public in general for their welfare.
"Bangabandhu's ideal workers should also remain beside the people, as Bangabandhu all along had done politics for the welfare of the masses," she added.
The Minister came up with the observation while sharing views with leaders of the Mohila Awami League and the Juba Mohila League of Bagmara Upazila at the Taherpur Sheikh Russel Poura Auditorium in the district today as the chief guest.
Like Bangabandhu, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to see the smiling faces of the poor and underprivileged.
Dr Dipu Moni said the rate of poverty has been reduced to 18 percent from 41 percent, and the extreme poverty rate to 5.6 percent from 21 percent by the prudent and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Terming Sheikh Hasina's government as a people-friendly government, the minister said the premier has launched multifarious allowances for most of the vulnerable people, including widows, the elderly, and the challenged, throughout the country.
Referring to the price hike of essentials, minister Dr Dipu Moni said a certain section of unscrupulous businessmen created suffering for the people by hiking the price of essentials during the holy month of Ramadan.
She, however, said the government has taken all sorts of time-fitting measures to mitigate public suffering. She also urged people to remain cautious while purchasing goods.
With Bagmara Upazila Mohila Awami League President Kohinur Banu in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Abul Kalam Azad, MP, district Awami League Vice-presidents Advocate Ibrahim Hossain and Jakirul Islam, and Poura Awami League President Abu Bakker Mridha Monsur.
