BNP has announced a freedom fighter rally in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan on March 25 that will be the opposition party’s first rally in the capital city after October 28 last year, when BNP called for a rally at the same place, which was later foiled after clashes with police.
The party has been protesting against arrest of their 21,000 supporters across the country by the law enforcers. The secretary general of the party, along with most of its leaders, was in jail for several months.
The party in the meantime said in a briefing to the media that they retreated from the clash heading to the election. They arranged an internal meeting and human chain with a black-flag rally at the Press Club after the election.
Meanwhile, the party did not call for any large showdown or gathering since October 28. Arranging large programmes before the Independence Day and Eid-ul-Fitr, they will discuss their after-Eid work plans with leaders.
Active and assigned leaders have said that after 28 October, the party went through lots of ups and downs. Leaders suffered attacks and went through cases filed against many of them. Times have flown away among the complexities of court. Meanwhile, many supporters became hopeless as the leaders were in jail.
The Party is trying to get reorganized for a boycott of all Indian products on Tuesday. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi threw his Indian ‘Chuddar’ from his body in front of a public gathering and declared a boycott of Indian commodities. Tension is rising among the supporters and leaders. They are also planning to expose the harassment done to them last year before the election. Messages were found about carrying movements against the present government.
Sadek Ahmed Khan, the party’s general secretary of the Freedom Fighters group, said that they will go with a peaceful rally at 10 a.m. on Monday, March). Freedom fighters have been invited to the rally from many places all over the country. A written application was given to the DMP Commissioner on 20 March for permission for the rally. The decision to observe Independence Day with precession was taken on Monday (18 March) night through a meeting of the standing committee.
Meanwhile, on Thursday (21 March) at noon, from the chairperson’s office at Gulshan, BNP announced a briefing about the programs of 25 along with the rally. It was said that a three-day program has been taken. Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Any, the publicity secretary of BNP said that among the three-day program, the first day will be held on 25 at Nayaplatan, starting with a rally of freedom fighters in front of
BNP’s central office. The rally will start at 10 a.m. and will end at noon. On 26th March, the national flag will be hoisted early at 6 am along with BNP’s political Party flag. Then the leaders will start at the National Memorial of Savar at 7 am.
After paying homage to the National Memorial they will visit the tomb of Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the Party at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. And on 27th March, the last day of the program, they will arrange meetings and discussions at the capital's Engineers Institute to observe the Independence y. BNP’s vice chairman Major (retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Joint Secretary General Sayed Moazzem Hossain Alal, organizing organizing secretary Sayed Emran Saleh Prince were present among others in the media brief.
BNP has already made a 16-member committee to celebrate the National Independence Day. The convener of the committee is the party’s vice chairman Major (retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the party, has been made the member secretary. The committee also includes other joint secretary generals and leaders and members of the party.
