Jamaat-e-Islam of Chattogram city unit on Wednesday demanded the concerned authorities to ensure safety and security of the members of other religions to protect the communal harmony.

The party leaders also demanded punishment to the persons involved with the violence and looting public property from the different government structures.

Shahjahan Chowdhury, ameer of Chattogram city unit Jamaat-e-Islam and also the former member of the parliament, urged the demand at a press conference at the party office in Chattogram on Wednesday afternoon.

“I humbly request the people of all walks of life to maintain the achievement of this great victory achieved in exchange of the blood of numerous martyrs.

We all have to play a united role to restore a fair environment in the country, maintain law and order, and ensure the safety of lives and property of other religions,” said Shahjahan Chowdhury.

“For a long time, the countrymen have been subjected to extreme oppression, torture, terrorism, anarchy and deprivation. At least four journalists and 14 cops were also killed during the movement.

We wish the souls of all the martyrs who died in this movement to rest in peace. I express my condolences to the thousands of eyes lost, crippled and injured and wish them a speedy recovery,” he added.

“We noticed that a vested interest is attacking public and private institutions and individuals. It is not acceptable in any way. I request the concerned authorities to identify those and bring them under trial,” said Shahjahan Chowdhury.

“We will help the local administration by forming volunteer teams at the police station and ward levels to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property,” he ensured.

Jamaat-e-Islam of Chattogram city unit’s nayeb-e-ameer Mohammad Nazrul Islam, secretary Mohammad Nurul Amin, organizing secretary Shamsuzzaman Helaly, among others, were present at the press conference.
