Students are set to stand guard at key locations across Dhaka today to prevent what they describe as the Awami League's "terror anarchy" related to August 15. Simultaneously, a plan has been made for at least 500,000 supporters of BNP-Jamaat to take to the streets. According to related sources, the Awami League is allegedly using minorities, certain loyal officials within the administration, and foreign directives to instigate incidents.
Sheikh Hasina, the dictator who recently fled the country, has reportedly instructed her party leaders and activists to mobilize on August 15. The call to gather has fueled various rumors in the political arena. Some believe that the minority rallies may be strategically leveraged by the Awami League. While people across the country are guarding Hindu temples at night, the BNP-Jamaat perceives the gathering of minorities in Shahbagh as having ulterior motives.
Sources from BNP-Jamaat report that on August 15, they plan to occupy key locations across Dhaka from the morning. In the afternoon, they will converge for a rally at Shahbagh, where a special message is expected to be delivered, calling for the formation of a people's government. The sources indicate that they are fully prepared to counter any potential political maneuvers by the Awami League around August 15.
At a unity rally held in Shahbagh on Wednesday, at least 5-6 senior leaders from BNP and Jamaat emphasized that the Shahbagh program was organized in consultation with them. They extended invitations to students, teachers, and parents, including those who led the anti-discrimination student movement. It is claimed that around 150,000 leaders and activists gathered in Shahbagh on Wednesday. Additionally, plans have been made to ensure that at least 500,000 people remain on the streets of Dhaka on August 15.
The students are continuing their series of programs with four key demands: Formation of a Special Tribunal: They call for the creation of a special tribunal to ensure the swift trial of murders committed by Sheikh Hasina, her party, and the government, which they accuse of using a fascist structure.
Justice for Attacks on Minorities: They demand that the Awami League and its coalition allies, involved in the planned killings, robberies, and looting of minorities intended to discredit the mass uprising, be swiftly brought to justice. Additionally, they insist that the legitimate demands of minorities be addressed.
Accountability in Administration and Judiciary: They seek the removal and prosecution of those in the administration and judiciary who have legitimized attacks, prosecutions, and killings related to the student uprisings, and who are attempting to re-establish a fascist system. They also demand that these individuals be excluded from appointments in the new government.
Ensuring Equality of Opportunity: They call for immediate measures to ensure equal opportunities for those who have faced discrimination within the administration and judiciary.
Anti-discrimination student movement coordinators Hasnat Abdullah and Abu Baker Majumder stated that numerous conspiracies are being orchestrated to overshadow the issues concerning the student- people standing on the bloodshed. They asserted that the student movement will not allow these issues to be sidetracked. The students are committed to remaining on the streets until a people's government is established.
