Gono Odhikar Parishad has called for the Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League to be banned by the United Nations as terrorist organizations, citing the genocide allegedly committed by them.
The party made this demand during a meeting with a UN delegation at the UN Resident Coordinator Office at around 1:30pm on Thursday.
Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur and General Secretary Md Rashed Khan were present at the meeting.
According to a press release from the party, the discussion focused on the "genocide and human rights violations" purportedly carried out by the Awami League government in July and August.
The Gono Odhikar Parishad requested the United Nations provide technical and non-technical support in accurately determining the number of casualties, effectively reforming state institutions to build a democratic Bangladesh, and ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections.
The party also sought the UN's technical assistance in conducting an impartial investigation into the "violence, massacres, and disappearances" of the past 15 years, which they attribute to law enforcement forces and leaders and activists of the ruling party.
