BNP urges govt to start comprehensive talks on reforms, polls : CA Office

A three-member BNP delegation on Thursday met the Chief Adviser (CA) of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, and urged him to promptly initiate comprehensive dialogues with political parties on state reforms and upcoming elections.

During the meeting, the BNP delegation, led by party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, discussed their views on the current government's reform plans and the upcoming elections, according to a press release issued by the Chief Adviser’s press office.

Fakhrul, along with BNP Standing Committee members Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed, had a meeting lasting approximately one hour and fifteen minutes with the Chief Adviser at the State Guest House Jamuna.

“They requested the current government to promptly announce the commencement of wide-ranging dialogues with political parties regarding reforms and elections,” the press release reads.

It said the BNP leaders expressed their full support for the measures taken by the current government and affirmed that this support will continue in the future.

They also inquired about the country’s economic situation and expressed their concurrence with the concerns and potential regarding the economic outlook.

“Finally, they affirmed their commitment to working together with the current government on the measures it will take related to reforms, elections, and economic order, and pledged to be an integral partner in these efforts,” the press release concluded.

Planning and Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud and Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul were also present at the meeting.

Speaking after the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed optimism that the interim government led by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus would restore stability in the country and move towards holding elections soon.

He added that the discussion was very productive and that talks with political parties would commence in phases.

However, CA press wing sources said the Chief Adviser will hold view-exchange meetings with different political parties at State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday afternoon.
