BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, along with two others, has been acquitted in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of irregularities in plot allocation.
Judge Md Rabiul Alam of the Special Judge's Court-4 in Dhaka issued the acquittal order on Thursday, following an appeal by the ACC, as confirmed by Mirza Abbas's lawyer, Mohi Uddin Chowdhury.
The two others acquitted are former BNP lawmaker Ali Asgar Lobi and former senior special assistant secretary of the establishment ministry, Mahfuzul Islam.
The case centered on the allegation that in 2006, while serving as Minister of Public Works, Mirza Abbas allocated 19.44 kathas of land in the Tejgaon Industrial Area to a company named Pacific Chemicals. The allocation was reportedly done through irregularities in collusion with Ali Asgar Lobi and Mahfuzul Islam.
The case was filed on July 15, 2007, by the then ACC Deputy Director Syed Iqbal Hossain at Shahbagh police station. The court subsequently ordered the framing of charges against the accused on February 11 of the following year, initiating the trial.
