A court here has exempted 47 people including BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Miah Golam Parwar and former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur from three separate cases lodged for vandalizing Kazipara and Mirpur-10 metrorail stations in the capital.
Confirming the report to BSS, court inspector (admin) Julhas Uddin Akon said the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court recently exempted them from the case, allowing separate pleas of police.
The other prominent accused, who have been exempted by the court include BNP leaders Qazi Sayedul Alam Babul, Aminul Haque, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, MA Salam and activist Mahmudus Salehin.
According to the court sources, investigation officer of the case filed a final report with Kafrul Police Station Inspector Asaduzzaman Munshi, pleading to exempt 14 accused. Md Motlubur Rahman, investigation officer of the case also filed a final report with Mirpur Model Police Station pleading to exempt 13 accused. Detective Branch (DB) inspector Sikdar Mohitul Alam, who was investigating the other case filed with the same station, also filed the final report and pleaded to relieve 20 accused of the charges in his case.
According to the case documents, a mob of five to six thousand people ransacked Kazipara and Mirpur-10 Metrorail station from 4 pm to 7.30 pm on July 19. They plundered expensive equipment and broke all the glasses, screens, and ticket vending machines, among other things.
